It was too much to hope for that my son’s old Schwinn would make it through four years at the University of Alabama. The bike is so old I think he got the thing in grade school. The breaks are failing an the parts are falling off. So, we located the cheapest bike that has enough quality to provide some safety. We found the bike online though Cahaba Cycles, here in Birmingham. The campus in Tuscaloosa is so large that the best thing you can do is ride a bike. It cuts down on the possibility that someone will mug you. This is especially true late at night. So, the bike is the best economic decision I have ever made! University of Alabama provides a bus service but most students would rather walk than wait. Riding a bike makes it a 5-10 minute trip instead of a 20-30 minute walk. The bike we agreed on is a Trek that is the base model with 21 speeds. He should probably beat the bike up before he gets back on campus so no one will steal it. He assures me that it’s not the type of bike people steal.
