In Insurance there is an effort to be honest. It is the concept of good-faith vs the buyer beware. Like any profession there may be a few folks willing to cheat to get ahead. There is however, a $10,000 fine for violating Fair Trade Practices if cheating occurs. The insurance agent and can have their license suspended or revoked if they are found to be cheating. At the same time always make sure the insurance agent is licensed to sell what you are attempting to buy. I am only licensed to sell life and health insurance in Alabama. Also, I would have to be working through an authorized insurance agency to sell insurance. A person cannot just decide to open an insurance agency without going though certain steps. The insurance agent can’t have an unlicensed associate sell insurance, for them. Temporary licenses can be issued for six months but can be extended under some conditions and an insurance license has to be renewed every year and 24 hours of continuing education must be completed every two years. So, expect insurance people to be honest but do your part and check out the credentials.
